This year I took the plunge and decided to submit one of my quilts to the Mountain State Fair. It runs for the next two weekends, from Sept 5th through the 12th.
The experience promises to be the same at any other State Fair - cotton candy, rides, agricultural and crafts show. Besides that, attractions such as the Sea Lion splash, Kenya Safari Acrobats, and a Hogway Speedway mean that there will be something for everybody at this fair.
I went in to register already, as can be seen from the pics. It was great fun to feel part of this oh-so American experience! I got there early enough to be processed quickly and without problems; people were walking in with all kinds of items for the show, from potted flowers to skeins of wool.
The Quilting section was right before the “youth” section, and one could see that there was a lot of activity there!

"Visitors to the N.C. Mountain State Fair can take advantage of special admission and ride promotions on numerous days during the fair, which runs Sept. 5-14 at the WNC Agriculture Center.
'Last year, the Mountain State Fair had record-breaking attendance of 191,596,' said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler. 'We want to see that number grow again this year, and these special promotions will offer enough incentive for everyone to come out and celebrate the best of Western North Carolina.'" More info here
